A Slow Flood
I don’t know how to describe what we are going through except as a slow flood. First the water rises, slowly and inexorably. When Lake Waters Rise
This year Lake Ontario is high and rising, and rain continues to fall frequently over the lake and the watershed that feeds it. When I last checked (on the US Army Corps of Engineers site) the water had risen 18 inches over the month before and was well above the expected forecast at 247.7 feet. Under Cover for Winter
To sum up: the challenges, we learned, were to build a cover that stands up to the wind, does not allow snow or rain to accumulate, gives us space to go forward along the deck to do things like put water into our tanks or tighten dock lines, and stays down and in place in even the windiest conditions. Each year we’ve managed to do a little better by solving the problems of the year before, and this winter we planned to keep improving. Continue reading
